Tarrazu is the name of a growing region south of the country's capital San José. Around 250 years ago the first coffee plants where imported from Cuba. Today, the nation is renowned for its coffee and you will find more than a hundred coffee trees per citizen. Costa Rica is also the first country in Central America which used scientific innovations and better agricultural technology to improve the growing and production process of coffee.
