Rooibos tea is not really a tea in the true sense of the meaning. Rooibos is a plant, a small bush from South Africa. Its needle-like leaves are processed to the the typical red colour. The other name for it is redbush tea.
You steep this tisane like black tea and can add milk or cream to taste or lemon and honey.
The flavoured varieties usually do not need much extra sweetener if at all. Rooibos tea is caffeine free, so also suitable for children.
The medicinal use in Africa for this tea is for infantile colics, asthma, allergies and skin problems. Rooibos tea is really nice and a good alternative to traditional black teas.
